Surf City Hotel

Hi everyone :)

I am planning a trip to LBI in July. I have been researching the Surf City Hotel. Does anyone know about the rooms there? When going to make a reservation, it gives the choice of a ';hotel';, ';cottage'; or ';inn'; room, but there is no info on the website. Just curious if anyone know more about the hotel. I called, but it%26#39;s a few months before the season begins. Thanks!!

Surf City Hotel

I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. On our first trip to LBI, my fiance had reserved a room here and when we arrived at the hotel, we were denied a room due to what we believe was age discrimination. Unfortunately, we had left our credit card behind but were willing to pay cash. In response to this, the owner told us that he no longer had a room for us and he had the ';right'; to decide who can stay at his hotel. Luckily, this was during the off-season and we were able to find another hotel. We%26#39;ve been back to LBI twice, and have been fortunate enough to stay at other hotels that have been much more friendly and accomodating. Please do not stay here and help support this discriminatory owner. There are MANY other great places to stay on LBI.

Surf City Hotel

Don%26#39; sty there. It%26#39;s barely been renovated in 20 years. Also, parking will be impossible right there because of day trippers. My parents have had a house on LBI for over 30 years, so I know it very, very well as I spent every summer since I was a child there. I would suggest you try to find something in Barnegat light or even Beach Haven if you%26#39;re just going to be a few days. The Sea Shell in BH is right on the beach. Some friends stayed there and said it was fine, but not luxurious. I have never had to stay in a hotel on the island, but only hear about them from others who have stayed. Widas in Brant Beach has closed; and a restaurant and bed and breakfast are going in there. I heard the B%26amp;B will be very nice. Not sure what the name will be, but maybe you could go to LBI.net and get some information.

The problem you may run into is if you want to stay on the northern end of island, there are limited number of hotel/motel choices. The house rentals are usually for a 1 week min. If you are open to other areas of LBI, there are many more choices including some beautiful B%26amp;B%26#39;s and Inns in Beach Haven that get rave reviews. Good luck! If you do stay somewhere, be sure to review it for those coming after you.

Well I just had lunch today with a friend who lives year round on LBI. The B%26amp;B going into Widas probably may not be open until the end of summer. They are working fiercely on the restaurant going in, so that will likely open before the B%26amp;B. The name of the restaurant is Daddy-o%26#39;s.

You didn%26#39;t mention if you have children, but if you do and they are small, try to find a place that is oceanside. Crossing Bay Blvd is very dangerous; I see people with small babies who cross far away from lights and then get stuck in the middle turn lane. This is very dangerous when you have small children and all the other stuff you have to lug to the beach. Just a thought.

Go to the Drifting Sands in Ship Bottom...it is newly renovated with new wing

Daddy-O%26#39;s

The same people who own the Plantation are the ones who bought the Widas. I understand the manager with the horrible attitude and weird personality that was at Plantation will manage the new Daddy-o%26#39;s. I%26#39;m thrilled about that development! Hopefully you%26#39;ll be able to get a better drink that the 4 ounce ones that Wida%26#39;s served for years. Supposedly a beachy 60%26#39;s theme ala Beach Blanket Bingo/ Frankie Avalon, etc.

You%26#39;re right...a lousy name.

I used to live in Manahawkin %26amp; travel regularly along the strip. Wida%26#39;s was an occasional haunt. Go forward 15 years...I moved away and went back to Chowderfest last week. WOW...I was amazed by the numerous changes on LBI. One of my positive experiences was Daddy%26#39;';os. It was the same location, new look both inside %26amp; out. very nice re-face! Walked in and the bar and restaurant were located in the same locations. It was just a face-lift. Food was exceptional. service as well. Prices fair, and menu was more progressive than in the past. I reccommend a visit. Judge for yourself.

Too bad that no one responds to this Blog. Reality says that the internet is not as effective as they say it is, but for the heck of it I%26#39;ll take a last stance to contribute to it, and tell the truth.

As in my last entry, I used to live in Manahawkin 15 years ago. Upon my return, allI can say is that the Surf City Hotel hasn%26#39;t changed. It%26#39;s not the exclusive resort hotel that one might think an LBI resort should be ,but it%26#39;s a place to hang your sun visor after a great day at the beach and go out each evening for great food on the island. Reality says, Jackie V and company have provided the best entertainment over the years. Don%26#39;t judge the stay by the room that you sleep in for a couple of hours. Judge LBI on the hours of fun when you are awake!!!!!!!
