Monthly or half-season summer rental?

Hi...new to the Shore -- generally spend summers in the outer banks of NC. Toying with the idea of getting our family either a half-season rental or just the month of July somewhere along the Jersey Shore. We prefer LBI, but affordability is important so we%26#39;d be willing to consider other areas.

My question is: How do you find long term rentals for the area? I almost always rent homes/timeshares etc when traveling, but all of those sites focus on weekly and it%26#39;s very time consuming to find the long term (if any) available.

I don%26#39;t really want to waste a realtor or agency%26#39;s time until I do some research to determine if this is something we seriously want to pursue.

Doesn%26#39;t have to be too big...just has to accommodate, 2 adults, 2 toddlers and 1 lazy mature DOG.

Long Beach Island has a fair amount of seasonal rentals, especially in the Beach Haven area. Check out wwwllbi.net. There is a real estated rental ';classified'; and a real estate rental wanted classified where you can post. There is also a question/answer forum. Many seasonal rentals in Beach Haven are word of mouth directly from the owner. You can try www.vrbo.com or www. shoresummerrentals.com also. You should check back regularly as things will come on line as owners prepare for the upcoming season and know how many repeat rentals they have coming back. Also as properties change hands, they may flip to rentals and come up totally empty. Good luck.
