Dear all,
We are arriving at JFK a week on Saturday (9th Sept) and are heading on down to my girlfriends aunts in DC.
We have hired a car and wanted to stop off at a nice beach on the way for a bit of sun-bathing (sun depending), swim (sharks depending? - do they come up this far, excuse my naivety!) and somewhere to crash in the evening (all right hotel not too expensive, a nice restaurant; same applies and a few bars)...
Any ideas?? We are only likely to be there for a day and a night, before driving onto Phili (a day and night) and then on down to DC.
Your suggestions would be most welcome, because as yet I have not got much of a clue - which means a big telling off !!
Thank you in advance,
Cheers
Paul
HELP! Travelling down from NY to WC stopping off at a beach?
While September isn%26#39;t high tourist season at the NJ shore, it may be difficult to find a reservation at this late date. I would recommend Cape May, NJ. It has a fantastic, clean beach, and the water will be warm this time of year. There are a variety of hotels, motels and B%26amp;Bs to choose from and some of the best dining options at the NJ shore.

Spring Lake would be an ideal place for you. I recommend the Hewitt Wellington Hotel.

Hi ya,
Thanks for those two suggestions. I have looked at Google Earth and I think that Cape May may be slightly too far south to travel ??...well it looks a bit too far on google - what do you think the commuter time from JFK would be?
Spring Lake looks ideal - relatively laid back, picturesque and a few decent looking restaurants...even though the weather looks to be rubbish on Sunday !! How long would it take me to get there from JFK do you think? Hopefully we wont be the only people on the beach will we...I dont want it to be a case of spot the tourists !!! ha ha !!
Thanks again,
Paul
I recommend Long Beach Island - about the middle part of the Jersey Shoreline. It is very nice and not trashy but not snobby either.
I usually stay at and like The Buccaneer Motel in Spray Beach- it is bayside with great sunsets from the top deck. Joe Pop%26#39;s and Nardi%26#39;s bar will still be hopping on weekends in September. From JFK it is hard to say how much time because the traffic varies, but I would say about 2 and a half hours from JFK to LBI.
As for sharks - yes, we have them in NJ but I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s very likely to see one. Just don%26#39;t swim at dusk!
Whatever you end up doing, enjoy!
Try Atlantic City which has nice beaches and crowd, yet has dozens of casinos where you can have romantic time after nice sun bath, walking on the boardwalk at night is another great feeling at nights.
This is also good mid point for you heading Philadelphia on Atlantic City Express way directly to Philadelphia, and there is bus over as well. If you have car, you can stay at Cherry Hill NJ area before entering Philadelphia, you can get nice Holiday Inn at $34 on 2.5* hotel bid at priceline dot com that is only one hour west to Atlantic City. Don%26#39;t stay at Atlantic City on Sat night, they are too expensive!
The following morning when you visit Philadelphia, you can park at parking lot under JFK Plaza for $7 unlimited parking weekend, you can ride on Phlash loop bus for $1 a ride to as many attractions you want to go.
