Took my sister in law to AC while she was visiting from Arizona. We stayed at the Showboat the day after Labor Day. I specifically requested and got a renovated room in the Bourbon Tower. They%26#39;ve done an excellent job on the redecorating. The decor is subtle and attractive, the beds are extremely comfortable and even the bathroom has been redone in marble. Flat panel TV is big enough for those of us middle agers like me who cant see like we used to *S* Water pressure was a bit funky bit I attribute that to ongoing work on the upper floors. Our room was on the 14th floor and the vibration and noise from the construction was obvious but not deafening.
We walked the boards to Bally%26#39;s for the Virginia City Buffet, whcih was excellent as always. Played for a while in Bally%26#39;s Wild West and went to the Diamond Club at Caesar%26#39;s. A lovely room with fabulous ocean views. good food and superb service. Then we hoofed it back to Showboat. The casino was pleasantly quiet and devoid of drunks and obscenities, probably because HOB had no show that night. We ate at the buffet and it was OK. Next day I brought up some breakfast sandwiches from the Canal Street take out and they were really tasty, fresh and well made. We didn%26#39;t feel like going through the trauama of room service (more on that, below). Checked out at 2 pm and drove down to the Trop so she could see the Quarter. Their computers were all down so the lines for cashback and cards were awful. We didn%26#39;t linger. She was able to play both days and only lose $100, so she was overjoyed. She is limited to the Indian casinos where she lives and this was a nice variety for her. I was happy to hit for $2400 on the dollar triple play poker and then for $1000 on the quarter 5 play poker.
Went this past Monday to the Showboat with my sister. Again, requested and got a renovated room in Bourbon - but not high enough for the wonderful view I am used to. However, we could not hear any of the construction noise. Since summer ended they have resumed the remodelling of Bourbon in earnest and are now on the 18th floor. They are taking out the old tiling and flooring on the bathrooms and the jackhammer is going constantly. We walked the boards to Bally%26#39;s and Caesar%26#39;s so my sister could play, the went to Bally%26#39;s Diamond Club for a snack and cocktail. Very beautiful room, great food, but the service stunk. It appeared to me that only one waiter was working the room. We got our cocktail but our dishes were never cleared and we were never offered coffee or asked if we wanted anything else.
We took the jitney back to Showboat since it was dark outside and once summer is over, the boards take on a different feel after dark. She got off at Resorts and I went to the room to nap. Started playing at 11 pm like I usually do and played through 5 am. Lost my $300 but can%26#39;t complain. Sister got creamed as she always does.
Stupidly ordered room service breakfast - I say stupidly because of recent experiences which are still a problem. I called in the order at 10:15 am and was told it would be 45 minutes. Nothing happening an hour later so I call back. Now the guy is ';on his way';. At 11:55 he arrives. Well, even though I could get a late checkout, we had to be somewhere by 1 pm. Had they told me they couldn%26#39;t deliver it until Noon I would have done the Canal Street thing again. This is the third time in recent months that this has happened. Of course, I am going to follow through with management. They need to hire more people. It%26#39;s that simple. I%26#39;m hoping that with the Sands closing maybe their employees will be picked up by the other casinos which need more help urgently.
We still had a good time, as always.

ACMama - congrats on the hits! $3400 is not too shabby at all. We will be staying at Caesar%26#39;s for the first time in a while this Saturday, and I%26#39;m very interested in the new Diamond Club. Can you tell me where it is, what they have to offer, and whether you could actually make a meal of it? We%26#39;re not big eaters, but I%26#39;ve been to the one at the Hilton (barely any food) and the one in Borgata (better than many casino buffets), and am wondering where this one falls in between. We%26#39;ve been to the %26#39;old%26#39; diamond club (Athena?) at Caesar%26#39;s, and it was okay in a pinch.
Thanks for the info,

Another fine time in AC as usual and another big hit. Wow, when we get the chance to meet up in AC i am plunking my behind right beside you LOL.
CHEERS !!!!!!!
LuvBreezes: The Caesar%26#39;s Diamond Club is on the second floor of the casino not far from the walkway to the new Pier. Not sure what it used to be since I never went to the Athena Club. It is a lovely large room. You certainly can make a decent meal out of the food offerings, which is what my sister in law and I did. They have an asssortment of cold sandwiches (varies from day to day) already made or you can make your own from a selectin of breads and things like tuna and egg salad. Also have a green salad, plus at least 2 or three hot entrees and an ample dessert bar. The day we were there, they had penne with a nice mushroom/garlic sauce, pork chops marinated in a zippy sauce, mashed potatoes and cauliflower au gratin which my SIL went nuts for. Corned beef and swiss/ turkey sandwiches ready made. And a bunch of salads and hot soups.
I think you%26#39;ll be pleased, and you sure can%26#39;t beat the price :)
Have a great time and let us know how you do.

Terminator... I%26#39;m with you: we will follow ACMama (and Moneywho if he ever gets back from Vegas) and just give them our money to play with. There%26#39;s bound to be good luck... as long as we don%26#39;t qualify as ';Black Clouds'; LOL
ACMama... So glad to see that you and your SIL/sister had such a good time. I bet your SIL found the legitimate, real casinos of AC to be a far better deal and a lot more fun than those ';Chief Cheat'; quonset huts out in AZ! The best part of both excursions was getting to spend some quality time with family. %26lt;grin%26gt;
BTW, ACMama.... I still want very badly to meet up with you in the future. I know you were going to join me for a few hands of 21, but with your good luck on the machines, I think I%26#39;ll join YOU on the slots! LOL
Did you get charged for your 2 hour room service meal? I hope not!
I think i might qualify for a '; BLACK CLOUD '; if i have another run this upcoming trip to AC like the last. I%26#39;m afraid i will be in the ACMAMAS official ';BLACK CLOUD'; Black Book LOL.
CHEERS !!!!!!!
Hey, ACMama- congrats on the winnings! Seems that your best bet is to bring your Dad or Sis with you...they bring you luck! Haven%26#39;t been to AC recently- got some heavy bills to pay...but hoping to get there SOMETIME this fall! (With Dad, of course)...don%26#39;t tell my husband!!!!
AC Mama...
Thanks for the heads up on the Caesar%26#39;s Diamond Club...we will give it a try on our next trip to AC in a couple of weeks. Can not agree more with your assessment of the Ballys%26#39; club...wonderful room, good food, horrible service! We%26#39;ve been there mid afternoon a couple of times (3PM) and it was pretty good but last time we were there between 5 and 6 and were lucky to get one drink and never got plates cleared. Also, they poured my martini into a paper cup when we left. I think they need to work on that a lot. Hope you are right about picking up some Sands workers but I think it has more to do with cost cutting rather than lack of potential employees.
LuvBreezes or anyone else who can help...last time we were at the Borgota (August) we looked for their club but could not find it. We got the impression that with the new construction it was being moved around. Can anyone give us a heads up on where it is and what%26#39;s it%26#39;s status?
Thanks ACMama - We will definitely check out the Diamond Club on Saturday. I%26#39;m looking forward to seeing all the changes at Caesar%26#39;s since I was there last July.
Frank3 - I have not been to the new VIP lounge at the Borgata since they moved it. Last spring, I got a notice in the mail that it would be closed until September, so I%26#39;m guessing it%26#39;s been reopened in its new location, but I have no idea where they put it. Last time I was at the Borgata I didn%26#39;t even see the new section, the place is so huge we only covered about half of it!
Cheers,
LuvB
ACmama, I%26#39;m going to Showboat in a month. What is the highest floor you would stay on in the bourbon tower? That is, which floor would still be high but also be quiet? Make sense?
We stayed on the 11th floor this summer and the view was very good but they weren%26#39;t working on the upper floors then.
Thanks!
Football Mom - When we stayed on the 14th floor (4 floors below the work), the noise was noticeable - not a loud shrill noise but a steady vibration from the jackhammer - but enough to disturb sleep. No noise at all on the 7th floor, but no view either. I would say since they%26#39;re still on the 18th floor (it seems to take 2 to 3 weeks per floor) you would be safe on the 7th through 10th floors.
Mary L: Yep - hubby finally came to the conclusion that I don%26#39;t win when he%26#39;s with me....and has vowed to go to the room like a good boy on our next trip :)
