to buy or not to buy in Brigantine?????

We live in NJ %26amp; are considering buying a condo in Brigantine. Is it a good place for a 2nd home?? (retirement) I am a little concerned about only 1 bridge to get off the island. Any hurricane problems?

Help......

to buy or not to buy in Brigantine?????

We live in Brigantine. Given the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina, we have definitely had concerns about what could happen to this island in the event of a category 3 hurricane. There was an article in the Press of Atlantic City on Sunday, Oct. 9 about the effects of such a storm - you may want to check that out. According to the article, the entire island would basically disappear under 20 feet of water. Granted, it has been over 100 years since we%26#39;ve had a storm of that caliber, but the possibility is not unlikely.

Brigantine is a cute town, but very expensive and quite windy. Considering the beaches are only really accessible 3-4 months of the year, I am shocked by the price of real estate here. I just read an article in the Philly paper that said the Atlantic City area is some of the most overvalued real estate in the country.

As far as the bridge is concerned, it sometimes gets closed because it ices up. Traffic is only a problem in the summer.

Don%26#39;t get me wrong - I like it here, but there are some drawbacks to consider. Hope this helps!

Buy. Brigatine is still a nice place with the houses not all jammed on top of each other as it is in Ocean City. The proximity to the attractions in AC is 5 minutes away, and when you are in Brigantine it as if you are 1000 miles away

I agree with seafelt and BUY. I can%26#39;t agree with his comment about OC. If you like the beach and you have always wanted a 2nd home on the Jersey Shore then just do it. We bought in OC 8 yrs ago. We did get into that flipping game, and it is the best thing we did. We had originally bought a 3 br 2ba on a second floor. We thought this would be the house until we retired. We would have been content with it but the market went crazy. Now I am 40 and we have a 4br 2 1/2 ba first floor that is not even a year old. I am thankful that I did not sweat the small stuff like a huricane. Hey any of us may get hit by a bus tomorrow, but if you do hopefully it will be on the Jersey shore. Seriously don%26#39;t think to hard about and live your dream. Mine came through many many years sooner then I imagined because my wife was willing to take a chance with me. Good luck on you new shore house.

I recently bought a vacation home in Brigantine and I absolutely love it. I have been vacationing here since I was 2yrs. old and my parents even owned a condo here during the late 70%26#39;s through to the 90%26#39;s. My husband and I continued to rent after my parents sold there place. We have raised our three kids to love Brigantine beaches the way I did. My husband used to stay in Ocean City as a kid so it wasn%26#39;t hard to convince him to come over to Brigantine. It is a small community, very clean and nice. We bought our place last spring and spent most of the summer there and then we go back about once a month to relax and check on the house. As a matter of fact we just got back from there a few hours ago. If you are curious the best thing to do is rent a place this summer and experience it for yourself. I have found that the bridge is never backed up with traffic even at the height of the summer season.Good Luck!

Thanks for your comments!! We had a contract but it fell through. Maybe wasn%26#39;t meant to be for now. Still would like an affordable 2 BR, 2 bathroom condo with nice pool, overlooking ocean in Brigantine. Any ideas???? (It would just be for summers.)

Brigantine....sold 14 months ago ,bought in 99....the islands prices for properties are crashing...over one thousand homes for sale,an no buyers...islanders who had little or nop net worth suddenly think they know what they are talking about..amazing to stand back and listen to a local lawn guy speaking about economics(yes he has a tooth missing)...
