Hi Allure
I just read your insider pages. Was quite interested in the ';cat page';
I didn%26#39;t see the cats when I was in either location a couple of weeks ago but that was probably because I wasn%26#39;t specifically looking for them. I stayed at the Taj at the time.
Good for you to draw attention to their needs. When I was in Rhodes a few years back they had a huge feral cat population near the city walls and volunteers looked after them. They had donation boxes attached to the walls of a nearby castle and tourists were quite happy to leave a lot of small change to buy food for them. I guess if they tried that in AC some losing gambler or homeless person would rip the box off the wall! A casino environment doesn%26#39;t lend itself to charity. Enough donations are made to the slots.
Inside Pages
The people you might see out there feeding the cats are very honest with donations you might give them . You can also donate at the AC Petsmart .
There are other animal welfare places in the AC area that need donations . The Marine Animal Stranding Center on Brigantine ( cute little gift shop there ) , The Atlantic City ASPCA ( You pass this as you leave town on Rt. 30 , and the Animal Shelter in Pleasantville ( a sad little shelter ) . Pleasantville animal care workers have their hands full with the type of community that recently had 4 doz. seagulls run over by two , as yet not caught , men who baited them with french fries ; and a kitten that was put in a bag , severely kicked and beaten and then set on fire by 3 %26#39;boys%26#39; 14,16, and 17 who did it because they were ';bored'; . The 3 boys have been charged as juvenilles and will receive community service plus court costs .
For those of you coming from north Jersey there is a unique zoo in Forked River called Popcorn Park . It is about 15 minutes west of the GSP . This zoo is made up of animals that were rescued from various situations including closed zoos , abusive owners ,circus castofffs , injured and orphaned wildlife . They have elephants , cougars , deer , monkeys , llamas , lions , peacocks , and lots more . They also have an adoption center for cats %26amp; dogs and some other creatures such as ferrets .
