Tropicana? or Hilton?

I%26#39;m now totally disgusted with Harrahs and Showboat ( the last postcard I received for a $5 comp was the final insult !!) I%26#39;ve decided to branch out and actively begin a new relationship with another casino. If I%26#39;m going to lose my hard-earned money somewhere, I at least want to lose it where they might throw me a bone -- or a room comp once in a while. So, I%26#39;ve narrowed it down to Tropicana or Hilton.

I plan to make a reservation for 4 nights (10/30-11/2) at one or the other. Their rates for these dates are competitive and reasonable, so it%26#39;s a close call.

I%26#39;m posting this to see if anyone can offer a suggestion or opinion as to why you prefer one over the other. Tropicana? Hilton?

Thanks! Anything you can offer will be appreciated!

Tropicana? or Hilton?

Hi,

I have never stayed at the Hilton but I have stayed at the Trop. I would pick the Trop simply because it%26#39;s bigger and there%26#39;s more to do in the way of hotels/restaurants/etc. If there was a big price differential on the rooms I%26#39;d say pick the less expensive. They%26#39;re both so close it%26#39;s a short walk so I think for you it%26#39;s a matter of personal preference. Please let us know how you make out.

Tropicana? or Hilton?

Had the same reaction last spring, when my Caesars comps became -- you got it -- insulting! just after the Harrahs buyout.

On my last comped stay at Caesars, I spent a day at Hilton. Got some comped weekday room offers over the summer -- though you have to call quickly because rooms fill up fast. Stayed a couple nights for three months, and saw a couple shows with free tickets. It%26#39;s a really nice hotel and casino, but eventually you realize it is very small. On my last two-night trip, in August, I actually got bored with the limited choice of slots and went to bed early. And if you don%26#39;t want a buffet or fine dining, even in summer there%26#39;s just one casual restaurant for meals (not including a bakery/coffee shop).

So last week, when I could schedule only one night of my two-night comp offer at Hilton, I found a room at Tropicana for $56, and we moved to the Trop for the second night. It%26#39;s a *much* bigger casino, and the restaurant options are far greater. It was fun to see The Quarter shopping area, but for me that wouldn%26#39;t be a reason to keep going back.

As far as rooms go, Hilton has given me bigger rooms with better views, spotless and tastefully decorated. But we liked our Trop room very much, too. It was smaller, but recently redecorated and very nicely done. OTOH, we had much better luck at Hilton%26#39;s slots! We had very good service at both casinos and hotels, so there was no clear winner on that basis.

I%26#39;m still waiting to see what last week%26#39;s jaunt at the Trop will bring in the way of comp offers. I had been getting offers for free shows and some cash back from Trop, just for playing a few hours on a few previous trips. I hope steady play for a whole day will bring some room offers, especially in the off season.

The two of us who stayed at both places last week agreed we%26#39;d probably choose Tropicana over Hilton, assuming equal comp offers, for a few reasons:

-- greater choice of slots

-- greater choice of restaurants

-- shorter walking distance to mid-Boardwalk with all the other casinos and now, the Caesars shopping pier. (Of course, the jitney makes the distances less importaht)

Why not consider two nights at Hilton and two nights at Tropicana?

Whatever you decide, have fun and good luck!

I%26#39;ve stayed (and played) at both the Hilton and the Trop, and I like the Hilton better. The rooms are nicer, I almost always get ocean view - and once I even got upgraded to an oceanview suite. The Hilton also sends fantastic comp room and show offers. 2 night stays, Thurs-Sun. As previous reviewer stated, you do have to call and book your comp right away though, but you can always line it up and cancel. With all the times I played at the Trop (and stayed there once), I never got a comp room offer. Only parking/buffet/show offers. I find the Trop to be a bit overwhelming. I like the smaller Hilton - easy to meet your party in the casino - you can actually find someone! Also, I love walking on the boardwalk, and the walk to the Trop (and beyond) is really not bad from the HIlton. Just make sure you%26#39;re in sneakers! One more thing, my room at the Trop (this past August) was very small, in one of the older wings, and the key didn%26#39;t work twice.

I am a loyal Hilton player, mainly for the comps, quality of drinks (bottled beer!), beach/bar, and nice rooms. Having said that, the casino is pretty small and can get boring after more than one or two days. On the other hand, the Tropicana is close enough that a reasonably healthy person can easily walk over to take in other scenery and restaurants. There%26#39;s also the Jitney, which will take you to just about any AC hot spot for $2 each way. Being in town for four days, you don%26#39;t want to limit yourself to one property, or you will be missing out on so much.

If you go to the Hilton, don%26#39;t be afraid to ask for comps; they are marketing hard to win new players.

Have fun!

Hilton all the way.Small but nice and the comps are way better than the Trop.If you like your beer in the bottle, its one of the few places in A/C to get it.Drink service is also greater than the Trop. And they have some fine dining.Alot of us have that disgust for Harrahs properties since their takeover.Go where you are appreciated(Hilton,Resorts,Borgata and the Taj.)Rooms are great.

My vote would be for the Hilton. After playing there only a few times, I started to receive pretty good offers (granted, this was before Colony bought them out) and every room I ever stayed in was just beautiful, clean and spacious. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful, and I always thought their buffet was one of the best. True, the casino is small but as others have said, the Trop is a short walk away. I was strictly a Trop player for many years but finally got turned off completely in early 2003 with the overwhelmingly dirty casino and poor drink service; a really bad room (almost no furniture, no hot water and bugs) was the last straw. I still play there now and then and the cash back seems to be quite generous. I am also contemplating moving my business to a non-Harrah%26#39;s property next year. Let us know your thoughts when you return from your trip.

I agree with the last two people! The Hilton has great drink service and the slots are looser than the Trop. Also the Hilton has 3 very good Restaurants, Oaks, Peregrines and Caruso%26#39;s. The casino is small but like I said the slots are looser! Rooms are nice and big. Comps and cashback are very good .
