I can personally recommend the Sheraton on Rte. 1 which offers graciously proportioned rooms, outdoor (now closed for the season) %26amp; indoor pools, and is showing some terrific deals on its home page (e.g., 2nd night for 1/2 price). Plus, unlike the Hilton, there are movie theatres, oodles of stores and many restaurants in the very immediate vicinity... at the Woodbridge Center %26amp; the Menlo Park malls and along Rt. 1 itself.

Restaurant reservations?

My husband and I will be spending our anniversary in Cape May the second weekend in September. Is it necessary to make reservations in advance for restaurants or since it%26#39;s after Labor Day would we be able to make reservations perhaps on the day we%26#39;re dining?

If you are going to the Washington Inn, Union Park, Merion Inn I would definetly make reservations. Even though it is after Labor Day, it is our SECOND season. Weather is plently warm for the pool or beach. Sun is warm and strong. Evenings are pleasant. Plenty to still do and see. It is busy, but way different than the summer. Enjoy our second season....we do!

Thanks. We%26#39;re still researching where we%26#39;d like to eat. Do you have any suggestions for a nice restaurant that is a little less expensive than those you mentioned. There%26#39;s so many to choose from. Just wondering about your personal preferences.

Try one of Cape May%26#39;s BYO restaurants like Tisha%26#39;s and 410 Bank Street. We had excellent meals at both locations over 4th of July. And I agree that it%26#39;s best to make reservations, especially on the weekend.

While I agree that Tisha%26#39;s and 410 Bank Street are wonderful restaurants, they are %26#39;fine dining%26#39;, and not inexpensive. We enjoy Louisa%26#39;s on Jackson Street, also a BYOB, serving great food, very casual, and less %26#39;pricey%26#39;. Reservations should be made on Tuesday at 4pm, as seating is limiited to 20 at this popular spot.

My favorites are Cucina Rosa and Tisha%26#39;s. The food is great and not so expensive. Also, the Merion Inn is great, it is one of those little secrets of Cape May. You should still make reservations just to avoid a wait. Lucky Bones, on the way into Cape May is new and people who have eaten there raved about it. It is also moderately priced.

Yes, be on the safe side and make a reservation. Many of the best restasurants are small and do not have a large number of tables available.

I recommend the Peter Shields Inn. It is so romantic!

My husband and I were planning to visit Cape May Sept 9th also. Ar there any attractions that you would reccomend and are there any plays or concerts or cultural events going on Saturday. How about nature excursions?

I%26#39;m planning a bachelorette party for my cousin for the first weekend in October. I%26#39;m trying to decide between the Trop and the Borgata. Which do you think has better clubs for women in their mid-20%26#39;s? We%26#39;re looking for somewhere where we can drink and dance all night, definitely something with a lot of energy...greatly appreciate any input!

The Borgata has a younger crowd, probably be the better choice for you, they have the Mixx nightclub which does well on weekends.

As I walked past the Looooonnng line trying to get into Mixx two weeks ago, I heard a young woman cursing at her companion: ';You mean we have to wait two more F******* hours in this line just to get a drink';? That was around 10 p.m. Saturday night. Line didn%26#39;t get short until after 2-3 a.m. Every other place at the Borg was also packed and had very, very, very long lines. I don%26#39;t think I could recommend it for your bachelorette party unless you like to follow the crowd. Maybe it was just a busy night? Have you checked the House of Blues at Showboat? I%26#39;ve seen quite a few 20-somethings having all night blasts there.

Worship at HOB has a Sat. nt Male stripper show popular with showers . Trop has a variety of places where showers are welcome . RiRa Irish Pub and The Sounds of Philadelphia are two .Mixx and MurMer are the two big clubs at Borgata . These , along with Casbah , have long lines unless you get there by 9pm or after 2am . I would recommend you go to Worship and then cab it over to eden @ harrah%26#39;s by 1AM if you want a change of scenery . Also ';all night'; in AC can be live bands at the Eden from 9PM-3AM , to DJs 9pm-8AM at Mixx or Club Tru .

While i was at The Trop last week i seen a few seperate Bachelorette parties going on. The only reason i knew what is was is that the girls were wearing a Miss Bachelorette Sash.

I also seen a Bachelor Party with the fellow handcuffed to a Blow Up Doll. None of the parties were out of control , but they were definately having a lot of fun at The Trop.

Imbanks3,Think the Trop.would be best.Reason i say this is because I have read about more of these parties being held there and have heard of none at Borgata, and second you are on the Boardwalk if you desire to go else where for more fun(easier getting around),compared to Marina area.

My daughters best friends sister decided on a bachelorette party at the Borgata for baby sis .

Daughter said never again . Places packed . Ridiculous to spend $ for having the pleasure to stand shoulder to shoulder at the clubs .

Forget about room to dance .

The next friend had hers at the Marina . She said this worked out a lot better , even though they were not at the board walk .

They cabbed it as a group to bar hop at different casinos .

The Missile Bar in Cuba Libre would also be a good choice for you

They have the best DJs %26amp; dance floor, and the crowd was always a great mix of people. I went for an early visit [10pm] in August and the crowd had not arrived yet, but the club still looks great.

I have heard some awful things about big cities in NJ. I was wondering if it would be safe to lodge in Parsippany, and if the neighboring towns are safe.

I am currently staying at the Embassy Suites in Parsippany. I am staying a week. I have driven, walked and taken a cab to several places, and have felt very safe. After spending several days prior in New York, I feel very safe here. In addition th is hotel is very nice.

Parsippany NJ is basically safe, although there are some ';seedier'; areas. I grew up in a neighboring town. Most (not all) of the neighboring towns have relatively little crime and a high per-capita family income close to 100K/year. I was surprised that someone wrote that the neighboring towns aren%26#39;t that nice.

Parsippany is surrounded by Denville, Montville Township, Pine Brook, Whippany (Hanover Township), Boonton Township, and East Hanover. Mountain Lakes has homes that are easily over 1 million dollars and up in terms of real estate.

As far as places to stay, I would stay away from anything on Route 46....the Howard Johnson%26#39;s and the Holiday Inn have had cars broken into in the parking lot.

There%26#39;s a Hampton Inn which is on Cherry Hill Road near Mountain Lakes that looks ok.

East Hanover has a Courtyard by Marriott on Route 10 which looks nice as well.

If you have some hotels in mind, I might be able to offer some advice.

I forgot about the Embassy Suites....that%26#39;s also a very nice hotel and the restaurant is supposedly good as well. (It%26#39;s on Route 46). :)

I grew up there too. I%26#39;m surprised to see someone say the area isn%26#39;t safe.

When I return I frequently stay in the Courtyard by Marriott in E. Hanover/Parsippany. It is nice. It%26#39;s been years but the Parsppany Hilton had a great brunch.

If you%26#39;re uncomfortable in Parsippany, stay in the Short Hills Hilton. That%26#39;s a town with alot of wealth and you%26#39;re right by the Short Hills Mall, for some world class shopping. You%26#39;re definitely safe.

In fact, alot of that part of NJ is very well to do.

Why are you going? Wedding or something?

I live in a town neighboring Parsippany, grew up here all my life but 4 years. There is nothing seedy about Northern NJ.

Parsippany is safe. Embassy Suites is a great place to lodge, beautiful hotel and good food.

Is the new mall open???

Traveling to AC at the end of the month and was wondering if the new mall that replaced the Ocean pier mall is open yet. I know they have announced several different opening dates and just wondered if it was open yet. Thanks.

Are you referring to the pier in front of Caesars? If so, then yes it%26#39;s open. There are still some shops that haven%26#39;t opened and I%26#39;m not sure what their plan is for the 3rd floor, but that wasn%26#39;t finished yet.

Yes the Pier At Caesars mall is open although none of the restaurants are open yet and there are still alot of stores coming soon i believe the grand opening is sometime in October.

Distance 33rd St Path Train Station to Penn

I am arriving New York next week into JFK. Unfortunately I booked flight before hotel and have to get over to NJ City using the Path. I have read a number of entries warning about the perils of travelling public transport from JFK but I figure getting on for $100 by taxi (and last time I took a NY taxi from the airport needed to lie down in a dark room for several hours to recover !).

We live in London and are used to hauling luggage around on the tube. So I am thinking the best option would be Long Island RR from Jamaica to Penn, then Path to NJC. However still not clear about how far it physically is between Penn LIRR %26amp; Path to drag luggage.

One last point is Penn Amtrak the same place as Penn LIRR because we are catching the train to Washington when we leave - from Penn NY Amtrak.

If you take the LIRR, you will be arriving in NYC Penn Station closest to 34th St and 7th Avenue. The entrance to PATH is 34th St and 6th Avenue.

There is a set of escalator closest to the 34th St and 7th Avenue entrance. You%26#39;ll need to take them up to ground level from concourse level. The train platforms are one level below the concourse level. It should take you about 5-10 minute walk from the ground level entrance to the PATH entrance.

To take Amtrak to Washington, DC, do not retrace your steps back to NYC. Instead take the PATH to Newark Penn Station. All the Amtrak trains stop there.

The advice you read over at the NYC board is false.

The Amtrak and LIRR train platforms are at the SAME level.

In general they are at different sides of NYC Penn Station. Amtrak and NJ Transit gates are closer to 8th Avenue whereas LIRR gates are closest to 7th Avenue.

And there is NOT an underground tunnel that connects PATH 33rd St to NYC Penn Station. I%26#39;ve looked for one and haven%26#39;t found it yet.

Most NYCers don%26#39;t travel between NJ and NYC much.

It is the ones who live in NJ who tend to know more about the transportation situation since we actually use it.

Hi all...my husband and i want to take advantage of some lower rates on weeknights. we%26#39;re looking at sept 17-19. i%26#39;m thinking the taj...mixed reviews on this site. we%26#39;re in our 40%26#39;s, want something kinda shwanky and definitely with a spa. any ideas? also, do you think it will be dead there on weeknights? bands in the lounges...that sort of thing? any help would be appreciated.

I liked the Taj. I think the new Ego Lounge has at least one band in there every night. The Taj connect via a 2nd floor bridge to Resorts on one side and Showboat on the other. There may be something going on at the House Of Blues either night. I can tell you that there will definitely NOT be something going on at Resorts%26#39; new %26#39;Showtime Tablou%26#39; lounge; they don%26#39;t open till Thursday.

We didn%26#39;t stay there so I can%26#39;t speak for the rooms or the food though.

Ego has no entertainmet on Sun. %26amp; Mon. Your best bet will be the Eden Lounge at Harrah%26#39;s . It has a band till midnight both nights , and is a 39%26#39;s %26amp; 40%26#39;s crowd . VG good Martinis ($11.50) and regular drinks are about $8.00 . MurMur Disco at Borgata will be open Monday night but is a younger crowd . You can go to whoot.com and check Casino=Lounge Listings, and entertainment = Atlantic City . Also check upcoming shows=House of Blues .

There is the AC Diner , The Irish Pub that is open 24 hours for eats. Also The Baltimore grill until 3 am. There are also 24 hour casino cafes.

Couple more late night Sunday spots :

Chealsea Pub , Proud Mary%26#39;s and AC Grill .

And as Term pointed out : ALL the casinos have 24 hour restaurants/cafes/diners - whatever you want to call them , with full menus . Everything from burgers to pancakes to to steaks ! At Bally%26#39;s it is upstairs . At Plaza it%26#39;s right inside the main boardwalk entrance .

The Taj is not a shwanky spa/hotel. It is a 1 or 2 star hotel that feels as if it hasn%26#39;t been renovated since it was built in the 80%26#39;s. The entire casino reeks of cigar smoke and the hotel rooms are so incredibly average.

The only upscale spa and casino is AC is borgata. If you are looking for a nice room and a relaxing spa, this is going to be your only option.

AC is going to be quiet on a Sunday and Monday in September, but I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll find ways to entertain yourselves. Take advantage of reduced rates at Borgata or one of the boardwalk hotels if you are looking for a little more excitement.
