I thought I read somewhere that there is a mall right next to the Holland tunnel. If there is...would it be possible to park at the mall then take the Path train to Manhattan for the day.
I%26#39;m not sure where we are staying yet. Maybe Newark. I know the Holland Motor Lodge is with in walking distance of the tunnel...but I%26#39;m not sure I want to pay 96.00 for a motor lodge.
Being we have a car we could pretty much stay anywhere if we had a place to park by the Holland Tunnel.

Holland Tunnel/Parking Question
So you have to pay to park at the Mall???
Does anyone know how much? This website didn%26#39;t say.

They have to do that. If the parking was free, all the commuters would be parking there to take the PATH leaving no parking spaces for actual shoppers.
Just email the mail your question about parking fees.
The Mall is the Newport Center, run by Simon Malls. It is in the Newport Waterfront area, directly across the road from both the eastern entrance to the Holland Tunnel, and the the Pavonia Newport Light Rail Station (Hudson Bergen Line) that runs along the Jersey City waterfront. It is also about a 3 minute walk from the Newport Pavonia PATH station that is located under the Marriott Courtyard Hotel.
The Mall offers parking at a price, there is also an independent covered parking building next door.
During the day, the PATH train will take you directly to Christopher Street, 6th ave, 14th ave, and 33rd ave in Manhattan, for $1.50 each way. Frustratingly however, your ticket does not interconnect with the NYC Metro system. Late at night, you may have to change PATH trains in Hoboken, one stop away from Newport Pavonia.
The Holland Motor Lodge is also only a 5 minute walk from the PATH train station. Accommodation there is from $73-$90, and while it isn%26#39;t flash, it offers extremely good value for money. Parking is free, and while I imagine that it is monitored to make sure you are a guest, I saw no proof of that while staying there. The hotel also offers overflow parking against the retaining wall by the ';drive through'; behind the Burger King next door at 85 12th St, Jersey City, NJ 07310. This is also free, and had no cars in it the weekend that I was staying at the HML. I would doubt that anyone cares who parks there. That would be my pick for the free parking.
You may ';doubt'; that anyone cares, but should you find out too late that some does care, you%26#39;ll be out $200+ to find it out.
I saw no signage indicating that it was towaway, but you are right - my recommendation was probably inappropriate. If you are only in Manhattan for the day, the parking in the Nelson Mall, or the next door parking facility would probably be less expensive than parking in Manhattan.
The website http://www.nycgarages.com/ has a really handy search feature where you can put in an address and it shows every parking facility in the area, including their address, opening hours, number of spaces and and price per hour/day. This can make it possible for you to locate the best priced parking facility - availability is another issue entirely of course.
